Three Lakes is a Colorado Special District, located in the northeastern portion of Grand County, Colorado, immediately west of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The area is within a two and one-half hour drive from Denver.
The necessity for the District resulted from the population, growth, and development in the area and the resultant pollution
of Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Lake, and Lake Granby, thus the "Three Lakes" Water and Sanitation District.
In 1982 the District completed construction of a regional wastewater collection and treatment facility,
which consisted of a three-cell aerated lagoon treatment system, more than 20 miles of sewer main,
and 122 lift stations. In 2003 a new mechanical Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) plant was completed,
as is depicted on this page, and the lagoon system is no longer operational.
The District furnishes a sanitary sewer service only, to its
general customers within the boundaries of the District. It is
presently servicing 2,704 residential and 118 commercial properties.
